The ‘Through the looking glass’ series offers a birds eye view of Capitalocene and Anthropogenic patterns or cues in the land through the lens of the atmosphere. The landscape is otherworldly, traversing from realism to abstraction, alluding to the artist’s own self awareness of climate change versus various personal hypocrisies, such as the benefits of flying versus the harm this does to the environment, the need for agriculture versus mass food production and wastage, and the politics of human land ownership in general. The titles, borrowed from popular culture and art history, reference visual cues that allude to deeper socio-economic and geopolitical issues of our time. ‘Oasis’ (a sanctuary seemingly untouched, a parting of the clouds providing a fleeting glimpse of a ‘Wonka’ promise). These series of paintings thus delves into the ‘ugly beauty’ of our landscape and atmosphere, each a petri dish of current affairs that we (as observers and participants) are simultaneously far removed from and surrounded by.The ‘Through the looking glass’ series offers a birds eye view of Capitalocene and Anthropogenic patterns or cues in the land through the lens of the atmosphere.
