“There are Rivers in the Sky” is a reflective work inspired by my time at the Go artist residency in Oudtshoorn in November 2024. Immersing myself in this unique agricultural and livestock-rich landscape for the first time, I engaged deeply with the environment by walking, driving, and collecting various shades of soil and cow dung—materials central to my current practice. This process allowed me to connect with local people, including farmers, and to learn about the area’s history. The work also incorporates a vivid blue pigment traditionally used by Basotho mural painters, honoring their craft and celebrating my cultural inheritance. At the time of my stay at GO residency my host was reading a beautiful Book titled “There are Rivers in the Sky”
