This portrait sculpture is inspired by the endemic vegetation that occurs only on the southern tip of the African continent, and is named for the iconic fireregenerated Protea species that is in turn named for Proteus, the shape-shifting Greek god. It was sculpted as an homage to trans and queer Africans for whom existence is a daily struggle of juggling masks.
