"Kupuuza" is a Swahili word meaning “to ignore.” In this artwork, the red apple suspended in front of the woman’s face symbolizes the temptation to make harmful environmental choices. Her averted gaze suggests a conscious decision to resist that temptation — a refusal to ignore the consequences of her actions.
The leaves covering her body represent our intrinsic connection to nature, emphasizing that we are not separate from the natural world, but part of it. The butterfly on her head signifies a transformation in her perspective — a shift from viewing nature as a resource to exploit to recognizing it as something she is deeply connected to, both mentally and spiritually.
