About the artwork
Mohlala says: “I create art to tell a story of my journey in a spiritual battle.” Exploring the elements of earth and water, Mohala’s ceramic sculptures use clay as a symbol of earth in the form of a mountain, while blue and white represent the water element. In the shape of a bowl that symbolises dreams, each work tells its own story. “The clay body I use represents the strong, young, black woman I am. I create small cracks in my work to show the spiritual hardships of life.”
